Measuring

Check dimensions, distances, and calculate areas.

Everything in in your VenueCAD layouts is carefully drawn to scale. Gone are the days of arbitrarily sized shapes in Powerpoint. The VenueCAD team draws your venue and object library precisely to scale so you can plan with confidence. Our measure tool uses dynamic object detection to precisely snap to everything on your floor plan.

Drawing dimensions

Use the Measure tool in the left Toolbar to add dimensions to your floor plan. There are some helpful keyboard shortcuts below that you can use to help you draw those precise measurements.

  • Enable Snapping: While snapping (S) is enabled, your cursor will snap to objects and the room linework so you can easily add precise dimensions.
  • Hold Shift: Holding the Shift key as you draw will lock the dimension line across either the X or Y axis.

You can control the colour and font size of dimensions similar to text labels or other objects.

You may find it helpful to lock dimensions that you've added to your floor plan so you don't accidentally move or delete them. See our guide on the Layer Manager for more details.

Good to know: You cannot edit dimension lines. Instead simply delete and redraw as required.

Measuring an area

You can measure the area of a space using the polyline tool. Simply outline an area and then hit Measure. See our guide to Working With Polylines for more details.
