Speed up your workflow with our list of keyboard shortcuts and pro navigation tips.
There are many shortcuts available to make interacting with your floor plan as simple and efficient as possible.
Top tip: VenueCAD is optimised for use on a wide range of touch devices. However, features like Smart Snapping detection rely on hover states, so we always recommend using a mouse or trackpad where possible.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Canvas Navigation
Move around your canvas in a flash. Whether using a mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen, you can zoom and pan with ease.
Key Features
Activate your primary canvas tools instantly. Hover over the buttons in the toolbars to see the shortcut e.g. - Measure (M)
General Helpers
Speed up your workflow with shortcuts to copy, select, and more.
Right-Click Menu
Right-click anywhere on the canvas to open a dynamic menu containing additional commands such as Align, Distribute, Flip, and more.
Using a touch device? You can access these same commands via the icon located in the Parameters Toolbar.
Canvas Units
There are two options for measurement units when working in the Editor -
- Metres
- Feet/Inches
Your chosen units are saved to your user profile. So two different users can view the same layout, at the same time, using different units.
There are a few different ways to change your units -
- Scale Bar - Click the scale bar in hte lower left corner of the Editor for a dropdown.
- Right Click Menu - See the menu screenshot above.
- Settings - Find the icon in the Right Toolbar
Good to know: Units affect all dimensions across the layout. They will not impact object names. These are fixed, i.e. "6ft Round" will be listed whether you have Metres or Feet / Inches selected.
Canvas Grid
You can toggle the visibility of a background grid on your canvas using the icon in the Right Toolbar. Depending on your canvas units, the grid represents :
Metres - 1m x 1m
Feet / Inches - 3ft x 3ft
Snapping
Enable Snapping with the icon in the Right Toolbar.
Now as you move objects on the canvas, you'll notice they snap into alignment with other objects.
This is also really helpful when Drawing Dimensions as snapping enables our dynamic edge detection which means you can snap measurements to walls and objects for maximum precision.
Dynamic Scale Bar
In the lower left corner of the Editor you'll find the dynamic scale bar. This will adjust as you zoom in and out on your canvas.
You can click the scale bar to quickly change your current units.
