Shapes & Labels

Draw a variety of shapes and add text labels to your floor plans.

There are a number of tools available to annotate your floor plans in the Editor. Each has different parameters available for customisation; explore the options below:

Drawing Shapes

You can click and drag to draw rectangles, ellipses, and lines. Once placed, you can control their dimensions, colours, and more. See the example Parameters Toolbar for a rectangle shape below.

Working with Polylines

You can use the Polyline tool to draw more complex shapes. This is particularly useful for defining specific areas on a floor plan.

Polyline Tips:

  • Enable Snapping: While snapping (S) is enabled, your lines will automatically snap in line with previous points.
  • Type for Precise Measurements: You can specify exact dimensions by typing distances. Note the hints in the Parameters Toolbar.
  • ESC to Finish: When you are happy with your shape, press ESC or ENTER to complete the drawing.
  • Adjust Points: Select an existing polyline and click Edit in the Parameters Toolbar to enter edit mode. You can then move or delete existing points, or hover over the line to add a new point.
  • Nudge Points: Use the keyboard arrows to nudge points a specific distance. The default is 0.1m or 4 inches. This can be updated via the hint message below the layout name at the top of the screen.
  • Measure Area: You can use a polyline to quickly calculate an area. Simply draw the shape and look for the icon in the Parameters Toolbar.

Adding Text Labels

You can easily add text labels to your floor plan. These come with additional text formatting options.
